Eight bridges connect the San Francisco Bay, so it is an apt name for a gallery platform that brings the Bay Area art world together.

Our mission is to maintain a vibrant gallery scene, despite restrictions on travel, celebrations and other larger gatherings. We want to support our artists by informing and entertaining curators, collectors and critics with potent online exhibitions of their work.

On the first Thursday of every month, we will launch 8 shows of artists relevant to the Bay Area. They may be working in this place, long considered an epicenter of change, or deeply engaged in the conversations the Bay Area holds dear, whether it’s related to technology, the environment, social justice or sexual identity, to name a few. In addition, each month will highlight the crucial work of a Bay Area non-profit arts organization.

Marrow Gallery – TWFive: “Spectacular Nothing”

January 29, 2021 @ 9:30 am PST - November 29, 2021 @ 12:00 am PST

Marrow Gallery presents Spectacular Nothing, an exhibition of new works from Bay Area based artist duo, T.W.Five. Using hand cut vinyl to create immersive installations, T.W.five offers a distinct lens into contemporary culture. The duo, made up of the Swedish artist Pernilla Andersson and Brazilian Paula Pereira, seek to expand the audience of contemporary art beyond the insular art world. They choose to purposely depict the mundane, the extraordinary and the imaginary to create relatable, engaging and visually impactful work.

In the current series, they look at the artist from a different perspective; one in which the ordinary becomes the work of art. Traditionally, the artist is depicted in the studio, with works surrounding them. Here they are depicted in everyday situations; with pets, with spouses, eating. In a postmodern slant, this activity becomes the subject, with audiences depicted viewing and responding to these human moments. The takeaway from the series is that the artist is the art, not the object. The creative process is continual and limitless.

About T.W.Five

Andersson and Pereira both have an MFA from San Jose State University. T.W.Five have had solo exhibitions at the Museum of Craft and Design, the ICA San Jose and the Luggage Store Gallery. They have done artist residencies at the De Young Museum, The Headlands Center for the Arts and Kala Institute. They have been nominated for an Arc Award from the Svane Foundation, Fleishhacker Foundation fellowship and SFMOMA’s SECA award. Their work is in public collections including Google, Facebook, GoDaddy, Checkr, Adobe and UCSF Mission Bay Cancer Center. This is their third solo exhibition with Marrow Gallery.
