Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco – Coexist: Curating Queer Communities in Asia ─ Sharing & Discussion

In celebration of Pride Month, Chinese Culture Center (CCC) invites Taiwanese artists and curators CHEN, Han-Sheng 陳漢聲, LIOU Xing-You 劉星佑, and YU Liang-Kai 游量凱 to share their recent Coexist Exhibition “Survival of the Exceptional” in Taiwan, in dialogue with “WOMEN我們: From Her to Here” group exhibition at CCC.
Coexist + Exhibition is a non-profit contemporary art project in Taiwan, focusing on gender issues that have been exhibited since 2014, hoping for more different conversations through curation and art production.
During the talk, curators LIOU Xing-You and YU Liang-Kai will share Coexist + Exhibition’s most recent exhibition, “Survival of the Exceptional?” at Tainan Art Museum, Taiwan, which explores the state of gender diversity in today’s society and culture. Artist & Curator Chen, Han-Sheng will share his installation work “是青春When I was Child” (2020), featured in both exhibitions “Survival of the Exceptional” (Taiwan) and “WOMEN我們: From Her to Here” (San Francisco), remembering the 20th anniversary of the Yeh Young-Chih incident* The program will end with a panel discussion with the CCC and “WOMEN我們: From Her to Here” curator Hoi Leung with Chen, Han-Sheng, LIOU Xing-You, and YU Liang-Kai.
“Coexist: Curating Queer Communities in Asia──Sharing & Discussion” is a programming of “WOMEN我們: From Her to Here,” an exhibition at the Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco exploring local and universal experiences of queer belonging and agency.
