Eight bridges connect the San Francisco Bay, so it is an apt name for a gallery platform that brings the Bay Area art world together.
Our mission is to maintain a vibrant gallery scene, despite restrictions on travel, celebrations and other larger gatherings. We want to support our artists by informing and entertaining curators, collectors and critics with potent online exhibitions of their work.
On the first Thursday of every month, we will launch 8 shows of artists relevant to the Bay Area. They may be working in this place, long considered an epicenter of change, or deeply engaged in the conversations the Bay Area holds dear, whether it’s related to technology, the environment, social justice or sexual identity, to name a few. In addition, each month will highlight the crucial work of a Bay Area non-profit arts organization.

Gallery Wendi Norris is pleased to present new works by María Magdalena Campos-Pons and Chitra Ganesh.
Campos-Pons’ Descending Angels are the newest works in Campos-Pons series, Un Pedazo del Mar (A Piece of the Sea). The works explore notions of transformation and spirituality, as well as the dualities of life and death, sea and sky, bodies and territories.
Ganesh’s double-sided mixed media paintings reveal intimate studio moments evoking hope and despair, triumph and exasperation. Each work incorporates free-form poetry with fantastical imagery and collage, melding text and image like roving maps of the mind.

The color blue and its reference to the sea is a recurring trope in Campos-Pons’ practice. In her words, “I come from an island. Continental experiences and borders are so meaningful, and to be surrounded by water is quite a unique and magnificently humbling thing. There is no place to go except to the sea.” Campos-Pons considers water to be something that both divides and connects us; a site of peace and violence as well as of mysteries and miracles; a ritualistic cleanser and a maternal force of nature.

Ink fades into light into dark, into an eye with -
No exit gate . but there were flames growing there—
Everywhere, including my mind’s eye. -
So what else? The children evolved their own language. -
The cone of silence so that women like myself could -
shriek like beasts, our little deaths protected. -
A baton coveted by all. -
The mirror arm really is -
still at the forefront. -
The fear of being forgotten, which -
supersedes every lightning bolt, every -
wet rose, every series of moist & -
parted lips -
Grateful for this high pain tolerance, which has given me the opportunity -
To withstand the greatest pain -
And feel by proxy everything I ever suffered -
And therefore feel love’s pinnacles and depths -
Like nothing else in the world and I -
Would never give this back for all -
the anguish and burn it has caused me -
